I recently was asked if adding a deck onto your existing home will increase the resale value.
Here is how I responded:
On average a deck will only add the cost of building the deck onto the resale value. That is of course, considering that you keep up the maintenance on the deck; making sure the deck is stained and you replace any wood that may need to be replaced.
The deck will help you have a quicker re-sale and value. The more exterior private space the quicker a home will sell. In a more aggressive market, the deck could push your asking price up 5 to 10k. But in today’s market, it will be the first house to sell over the properties with no deck.
